A Fashion Forward Bride

July 10, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

We met this lovely lady on her way to get hitched. Notice her glittery red Valentino shoes. It was definitely something outside the box of wearing white on white. We admired that about her, a fashion forward bride. KUDOS for the brave move. She just might single handedly start a bridal trend that will trigger us posting colored
on our bridal shoes page. This is not a bold move you see everyday (or at all) by brides. She looked so adorable! Congratulations to you and your beau! Hip! Hip! Hooray!

Color Blocking Is All The Rage!

July 9, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

Right now, it’s all about the color blocking fashion trend

Even if you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard about Color Blocking, this summer’s hot new style statement you are likely to have seen this profusion of bright, contrasting colors in clothes and shoes looking out at you from fashion magazines, TV and other media.

Color blocking is all the rage this summer

Color Blocking is, as the name suggests, bright bands or blocks of solid colors worn to create eye-catching contrasts – think neon yellow with lime green and white in a dress; a blouse where fuchsia is teamed with orange, or sky high platforms in pink, yellow and turquoise.

So if you see a top with a bright yellow bodice and startling green sleeves, hot pants in red, white and blue, a magenta shirt topped by a jade green coat, a maillot swimsuit in brown, hot pink and baby pink, or a purple and red shift dress with mauve shoes, it’s probably all about the color blocking trend that’s taken the fashion world by storm.  Same concept applies to shoes!

Color blocking is finding its way into the makeup palette as well so you can dress up your eyes in bright blue, paint your lips a startling red and top off your look with tangerine nails. And then there are the accessories – colorful bangles, bracelets and earrings, vivid colored lightweight jackets, and jewel colored bags add to the whole look.

How to color block

  • Ø Be bold and think outside the box – you may be surprised at what you can carry off.
  • Ø You can create interesting contrasts even with a single colored dress and vibrantly contrasting shoes, bag, or a jaunty scarf.
  • Ø Try to balance the colors you use – don’t let one color dominate too visibly.
  • Ø Use contrasting colors but look at the outfit as a whole to see if they are complementary.
  • Ø Stick to about three solid colors to avoid the over-the-top rainbow look
  • Ø Play with different shades of the same color to create interesting looks.

Don't over do it. It's always best to use solid color for blocking, not prints/dots et.al.

Shoeholics At The NYC Gay Pride Parade!

June 26, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

June 24, 2012 New York City: The Gay Pride Parade Day is not just about sexuality but more about equality across the board: sex, race, acceptance, awareness, unity, et.al. It’s about everyone getting along, the New York City Gay Pride Day in particular is the leader and trendsetter for all other parades around the world. It not only features the Gay community unapologetic and proudly marching to their own drums but also includes countless big wig major corporations and politicians taking a bite out of the media blitz! If you could combine the politics of Occupy Wall Street, politicians seeking votes, hyper energetic (and super proud) exhibitionists, with a dose of South American/Carribean Carnival spirit, the result would the Gay Pride Parade in New York City. Major corporations who proudly supports the community and didn’t miss a beat to have floats and dancers to display their logos: Wholefoods, Fedex, Cirque Du Soleil, MasterCard, Senators, Macys, Zip cars, Village Voice, Crunch Gym, HSBC Bank, Bravo TV channel, Pop Chips, Coca cola, New York University and even churches!

Each year the Pride organizers appoints a Grand Marshall to open the “floor” and this year it was only befitting to have the legendary singer Cyndi Lauper to do the honors. This particular parade marked the one-year anniversary of the Gay Marriage being legally put into law in the State of New York. Thousands of revelers traveled from far and wide to celebrate. The Gay community happens to be one of the largest shoe admirers and collectors in the world, make no mistake about it! We made sure Shoeholics Magazine was in the mix to represent our Gay/Lesbian readers and club members worldwide, making us the first mainstream publication (not meant for just the Gay community) to participate at any Pride parade in the world.

Participants of all sexual sectors straight or otherwise showed up to happily support, the result was intoxicating, far exceeding our expectation! It would be our first year at the coveted event and we do intend to fully immerse ourselves by having the party on a float complete with music and DJs next year, God willing. It is not to be missed!

Special thanks to everyone who participated, (our sincere apologies if we left anyone out. If we are missing your name please email info@shoeholicsclub.com) Alexas, Marcus, David, Olga, Coral, Imani, Lisa, Anita, Alanna, Sydney, Chanda, Courtney, Derek. The group was lead by Editor Tinu (who walked the entire parade in 5 inch Tribute heels by YSL) and Directors Renarda & Toriola with a stunning jaw dropping/crowd pleasing Jonas who serenaded the crowd to several dance/flip performances. The event went superbly well. We do hope to see you all next year! Be sure to join our club here and sign up for our newsletter for more updates and news!  The new July-Sept issue of Shoeholics Magazine will debut on Monday July 2 next week. Get your copy sent to you anywhere in the world or from any of the stores listed on our retailers page. Don’t miss a single issue!

Additional images of fashion & shoes from the parade are also available on the event page.
