A Lipstick Junkie/Shoe Addict’s Dream Come True!

September 21, 2012 in News, Shoes We Love, Wearable Art by Bernd Ruhl

Do you love your lipstick? Are you a lipstick junkie and love shoes? Combine the two and you get the lipstick heels by Alberto Guardiani. No, these are not the $30 copy versions from stripper shoe stores. These Italian leather made shoes cost well over $900, the original design.

In this case, not all shoes are made for walking. We highly recommend putting them in a glass case or mantle to just admire. You can only imagine what the lipstick part would look like after several times of wear and tear. So, admire them as art, frame them if you must. But don’t ruin them by walking! They are just too precious for the streets!

Kim Kardashian In Givenchy Fold Over Boots, TWICE!

September 8, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

The chilly season has not yet begun but Kim Kardashian is wasting no time in rocking her Givenchy knee length boots. Already won twice, with the first being in a much warmer climate of Hawaii in the middle of August with her boyfriend, Kanya West. It’s safe to say that she can’t do without these boots! She loves it so much she bought the style in 2 different colors!

Now, that’s a hardcore Shoeholic! We approve! 🙂

We spotted a lady wearing the exact same style during Fashion’s Night Out in New York City. The trend is already going viral.

Another version is also available in red.

Fashion’s Night Out 2012 Full Report!

September 7, 2012 in Events, News by Bernd Ruhl

September 6, 2012: The 4th annual Fashion’s Night Out 2012 was a smashing success and we can only hope it was the same for the rest of the world. New York City’s fashion districts (Meat Packing District, 5th Avenue, Madison Avenue, SOHO) was awash with fashionistas strutting about in their best looks, mingling and networking. Champagne flowed while the cash registers worked on overtime, everyone seemed happy. Some of our editors spread out all over the city hitting hot spots like Dior where iconic photographer Arthur Elgort set up a makeshift photo studio for clients, Chanel, Michael Kors, Giuseppe Zanotti who had a packed house, Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin, Tom Ford, and Barneys. Celebrities were spread out between Kim Kardashian at Lord & Taylor, Lana Del Ray playing at H & M, Bethenny Frankel at Macys, Cyndi Lauper at Manolo Blahnik, Miss Piggy at DKNY, Debra Messing and Kate Upton at Michael Kors, and many others we didn’t get a change to see. So many places so little time!  The entire city looked like an outdoor party till about midnight.

Our very own Editor Tinu with the legendary American style icon, Iris Barrel Apfel at Henri Bendel!

The event kicked off the semi annual New York Fashion Week with the best in fashion world occupy the city to take in the Spring – Summer 2013 collections at the Lincoln Center.

Please preview some of the images gathered by our team and editors from the fun packed evening, with more on TINU’s blog as well.

We hope to see you all again next year!

Spice Girls United At The Olympic Games Closing Ceremony

August 13, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

One of the greatest girl band of all time and big British export, the Spice Girls, lent a hand in closing the Olympic games last night in London atop the city’s Black Cabs as their individual stage. Trust the girls not to come up short when it came to the fashion. Their carefully chosen attires were well matched with gorgeous pairs of shoes that did not fail to shine as much as the ladies!

Does anyone “smell” a comeback of these dynamic ladies? Perhaps! Well done mates!

Alexander McQueen At The Olympic Games Closing Ceremony

August 13, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

The iconic British brand, Alexander McQueen’s collection dominated the most watched stage today. Some of the designer’s items took part in the closing ceremony of the Olympic games modeled by none other than Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell to name a few. Naomi Campbell strutted down the Union Jack shaped stage wearing gold embroidered and lacy gown paired with the rippled gold wedge, also by Alexander McQueen. Well, as you all know by now, McQueen never disappoints. It’s no surprise the label was one of the very few designers chosen to close the ceremony.

The wedge (featured below) are now on sale. Don’t miss it.

Saving Old/Boring Shoes: DIY Strassing

August 9, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

Gone are the days of discarding old worn out or boring shoes. Nowadays, they can be brought to life and revamped into a whole new pair, as if brand new, fresh out of the box. Old or boring shoes can be reborn again simply by applying glittery sparkles in their surface. This can be done in many designs and colors.

The industry term to this art is called “Strassing.” You’ve probably seen many high end designs billing $5000 and up for a pair of shoes simply because of the added strassed work. You need not shell out such an amount provided you are willing to send the extensive and tedious time gluing each crystal on the shoe and of course purchasing good quality crystals and not just the dull glass type. Yes, they do vary.

This topic was covered extensively in the July-September 2012 print edition of Shoeholics Magazine. Featured in the article is a before and after picture of the world famous trademark Tribute shoes by Yves Saint Laurent. It was converted from a plain $795 black suede pumps to something entirely different with sparkly genuine Swarovski crystals, a pair worth it’s own appearance on any red carpet with the right dress! This of course adds value of at least $3000 to the pair simply due to the time spent, quality and close knit crystals. It does add up.

Editor Tinu spent more than 68 hours working on the pair just in time for the photoshoot!

Also featured farther below is a sample by Wedding bee. She converted her plain jane Brian Atwood white satin shoes into something of a spectacular when she could not afford the price of $3400 in stores. She saved money by doing it herself. This is “sport” applicable to men and women. We have seen men strassing their sneakers too! Who doesn’t like an upgrade?

So if you have a pair, got the time, got a fat mortgage and car note to pay but want a pair badly, start gluing!
