London’s Selfridges Opens World’s Largest Men’s Shoe Store

November 6, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

Nearly gone are the days when men sit on a store couch while their ladies browse store racks shopping. Times are starting to change for the better –equality in shopping experience.

Looks like the ladies now have a reason to be jealous or simply a good reason to go shoe shopping at Selfridges in London. You no longer have to lie to your hubbies anymore about going to a doctor’s appointment only to change route and head out to a shoe store to score a new pair. All you need to do now is to say that you are going to check out the newly opened men’s shoe department store in Selfridges on Oxford Street in London on his behalf!  And for those of you abroad, dust off your passports, pack up the family and head out to the airport. It’s by royal appointment that you check out the men’s shoe store!

The mega store’s first floor is now home to 72,000 pairs of shoes, making it the largest men’s shoe department in the world, with over 250 brands and a made-to-order shoe salon.

Prices range from a reasonable £25 for Havaianas flip-flops to over £10,000 for bespoke boots by Tom Ford. You can expect the likes of Tod’s, Gucci, Carshoe, Bottega Veneta and Prada housed in a salon inspired by the bodywork of vintage Ferraris.

Stateside: Perhaps the likes of Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Neiman Marcus et. al will soon follow. The days of men looking dapper and suave (at least at the feet) is finally coming back. Perhaps we all have  the recently celebrated 50th anniversary of James Bond movie franchise to thank.
