Literally in every word, as it states… The Rising Stars! Fashion luminaries paid homage to emerging designers and innovators in the fashion and beauty world today. Award winning fashion icon, Patricia Field was the keynote speaker. She offered sound and profound advice to everyone in the room. Other established designers/personalities such as Laquan Smith, Nigel Barker, et.al, were on hand as presenters. It’s not everyday you see established governing body of any field give a fairly big platform to emerging artists or entrepreneurs of any kind. The Fashion Group International, which has been in existence for well over 2 decades, is still shining the much needed bright lights on many unsung/unseen talents in the game! A big congratulations to all the finalists and winners.

The Dynamic Dur Doux

The mother / daughter duo designers proved yet again that keeping it in the family is possible. For the NYFW FW23 collection, the pair delivered another of their signature styles of easy wearables of vibrant and cheerful cuts. Using fabric mediums from gorgettes to jerseys, easy to fold and travel ensembles. Most of the pieces presented could transform from day to night attire, effortlessly. It’s fun, colorful, accessible and versatile. Now, if only I could work with my own mother without arguing for one day…I digress. Kudos to Cynthia and Najla Burt on honing this skill set.

Malan Breton Wooed NYFW

February 12, 2023 in Events, General Blogs, News by TINU NAIJA

The Project Runway alum Malan Breton was a crowd favorite last night at NYFW, hosted by EPN where he presented his FW 23 collection in a financial district hall packed with his nearest and dearest. The medley of selections ranged from romantic ball gowns befitting of a fairytale princess to edgy styles Rockstars could easily glide into at a concert. Models included legendary supermodels Irina Pantaeva to socialites and philanthropists such as Jean Shafiroff and Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin. Such is the influence and power of Malan Breton to tap retired model and close friend of his, Camilla Barungi to walk his show! Shortly after talking his bows and humbly thanking his guests by walking through the aisles, he couldn’t hold back his emotions. Swelled with gratitude and joy, a few tears escaped his eyes backstage. Whew! One and done Malan, you survived it. Bravo! We look forward to seeing his next collection.

In the meantime, watch the current collection in the video footage below.

MaxJenny, “Queen of Prints”

February 8, 2023 in General Blogs, News, Uncategorized by TINU NAIJA

Swedish designer MaxJenny is carving out a niche for herself in New York if her premiere fashion show today is anything to go by. The Swedish Consul General Camilla Mellander graciously offered her lavish Park Avenue pad to host the eclectic and stylish designer’s NYFW show today. The medley of styles (for all genders) sent down the sistine chapel ceiling inspired runway definitely did not disappoint. I think even the most jaded stylist and fashionista would concur. Prior to today, I’d never heard of the designer. To my surprise she’d dressed the likes of Madonna and the Swedish Crown Princess Victoria! MaxJenny’s fresh and approachable romantic fun take on print had me looking up where to acquire some her designs shortly after the show. She’s definitely one to watch.

Fashion For A Cause

February 2, 2023 in Causes, General Blogs, News, Uncategorized by TINU NAIJA

The 7th Annual Blue Jacket Fashion Show for Prostate Cancer Awareness left no stone unturned. The award winning designer and founder, Frederick Anderson pulled out all the stops by enlisting some bold name notables from his rolodex to sashay down the runway for a cause. An awareness for Prostate Cancer that just about benefits a great number of men worldwide. An effort to normalize regular check ups for the sake of good health and well being. But of course, why not use a fun-filled fashion show to draw the much needed attention to where it matters!

Heart surgeons, CNN news anchor, editors, actors…turned models for day did the event much needed justice bringing in great sense of humor and style to the runway. Ones to note in the video footage below includes but not limited to beloved CNN bad boy news anchor Don Lemon (who made my heart melt by vying off the runway to tell me how good I looked. See the video), seasoned model and Harlem ambassador Musa Jackson who gave me a cheek kisses (yes, I’m still blushing), celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson, Sex & The City Mario Cantone, celebrity stylist Ty-Ron Mayes who practically almost stole the show in breathtaking spiked shoulders and corset with killer sashay! Ahh…a night to remember indeed.

100% of all tickets generated from the show will directly go to ZERO Prostate Cancer.

When Ms. Patricia Field says jump! You ask, “how high?!” Her legions of friends and admirers showed up and showed out for the legend! New York Fashion Week saved the best for last when the Academy Award nominated fashion styling genius and Shoeholics mag cover star closed the show with unique colorful medley of beautiful relatable fashion from edgy streetwear to the club! All keeping to the edgy and fashion forward collection we’ve all come to expect and love from the label. The curvy supermodel Liris gracefully closed the runway show pulling up Patricia who was seated next to me, to take the stage and enjoy her moment while onlookers cheered respectfully. Witnesses included fashion luminaries such as Fern Mallis, music legends Cyndi Lauder & Treach, Shoeholics magazine cover & TV star Coco, and Supermodel Carol Alt & actor Hairspray actor Garrett Clayton whom I spotted at the Musica after party shortly after. This fashion week certainly helped us shake off the cabin fever we’ve all been harboring since the lockdown! It felt good seeing everyone out in person again!

Side note: We really do miss the iconic Patricia Field boutiques in New York City. It was a city of fashion within a city! Mon dieu!
