Rihanna’s Shoe Designer Is Suing Gap For Knockoffs!

November 14, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

Knockoff is one of the hottest button topics in fashion and forever will be. The dust just barely settled on the legal battle between Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent. Charles Philip, a shoe designer with customers including Rihanna and Jessica Alba, is suing Gap for allegedly copying some of his designs!

Page Six at the New York Post reports

“In papers in LA federal court, Charles Philip alleges the mass retailer copied his distinctive designs and even used a similar name for its shoes, which sell for 80 percent less. “It’s more than [just] one shoe . . . it’s the entire collection,” Philip’s lawyer Andrea E. Bates told us. “This is what you’d expect to find on Canal Street.'”

Gap’s shoes are part of a “Phillip” collection and even include a distinctive stripe in the shoe, the attorney told the Post.

Philip’s complaint against Gap asks for financial damages and for the retail giant to stop manufacturing and selling the shoes.

Gap told the Post that it doesn’t comment on pending litigation.

Here are the shoes for you to compare. The plot thickens.

Oscar Winner Walks The Red Carpet Barefoot

November 10, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

Actress Marion Cotillard

You need not fret about the unladylike act of removing your shoes or adjusting them in full public view. More and more actresses are “speaking” up when it comes to their footwear on the red carpet these days. Gone are the days of being silent in pain while playing the dutiful actress to big wig film studio, no longer slaves to fashion –in this case, their shoes!

First, it was Oscar winner Nicole Kidman who bent down to adjust her strappy shoes in front of cameramen in Australia at a horse racing event a few days ago. Last night at the screening of Rust and Bone, hosted by the Cinema Society with Dior and Vanity Fair, fellow Oscar winner Marion Cotillard went even further by taking hers off completely sighting pain in her foot while her publicist protested. Of course it all fell on deaf ears. The actress walked the entire red carpet barefoot! Could this be a trend? We wonder who else would follow in their bare footsteps on the red carpet. It’s safe to conclude that it can happen to the best of us.

What else is there to say really? Someone must have let their exotic pets run wild in the wrong direction. Poor things.

November 6, 2012 in News by Bernd Ruhl

Nearly gone are the days when men sit on a store couch while their ladies browse store racks shopping. Times are starting to change for the better –equality in shopping experience.

Looks like the ladies now have a reason to be jealous or simply a good reason to go shoe shopping at Selfridges in London. You no longer have to lie to your hubbies anymore about going to a doctor’s appointment only to change route and head out to a shoe store to score a new pair. All you need to do now is to say that you are going to check out the newly opened men’s shoe department store in Selfridges on Oxford Street in London on his behalf!  And for those of you abroad, dust off your passports, pack up the family and head out to the airport. It’s by royal appointment that you check out the men’s shoe store!

The mega store’s first floor is now home to 72,000 pairs of shoes, making it the largest men’s shoe department in the world, with over 250 brands and a made-to-order shoe salon.

Prices range from a reasonable £25 for Havaianas flip-flops to over £10,000 for bespoke boots by Tom Ford. You can expect the likes of Tod’s, Gucci, Carshoe, Bottega Veneta and Prada housed in a salon inspired by the bodywork of vintage Ferraris.

Stateside: Perhaps the likes of Saks, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys, Neiman Marcus et. al will soon follow. The days of men looking dapper and suave (at least at the feet) is finally coming back. Perhaps we all have  the recently celebrated 50th anniversary of James Bond movie franchise to thank.
