If Boots Could Talk

Seen on the Fall 2013 runway, this 3.1 Philip Lim “Ora” boot has function to match its fashion pedigree. A shortened, buckled back and expandable shaft make this over-the-knee style easier to wear. We don’t mind the sleek handbag either. Click here to get your pair of boots now!

Shoes Aren’t Just For Fashion!

May 17, 2013 in General Blogs, Uncategorized by Jessica-Joan M Richards

In today’s world of excess, luxury, beauty and more, more, more, the world is increasingly growing accustomed to those who live the life of wealth whether or not they have the finances to do so. And the biggest causes of excess? Fashion. Shoes are the biggest accessories, which are growing in sales every single day. With different styles like, sandals, ballet pumps, heels or boots, the ever expanding repertoire of shoes means there’s no such thing as ‘having it all’ so why do we feel an impulse to purchase the latest heels from Chanel, why do you need the ballet pumps from Tory Burch (that look exactly like the ones you bought from Topshop)?

Ruth Richards, a second year nursing student, is among many women who feel an impulse upon seeing a pair of ‘to die for’ shoes that she ‘must have’. And when it comes to the excess of shoes Ruth said “It can be seen as an addiction, I’ve walked into a store before and seen a pair of gorgeous sandal heels in black, then I saw them in white and then in brown, but they were ‘perfect’ and I’d been looking for that style for such a long time, I couldn’t decide which one I wanted, so I bought them all.”

Fashion is 4 dimensional, it’s expanding and there are no limits, shoes are just a small dot in the whole spectrum and are becoming its own society. But there are so many reasons people feel the need to buy new shoes. You might have had a bad day, a good day, you might have just lost your job or have been promoted, either way sometimes you just need something nice, something that bind men with men or women with women. Something so simple yet universal, because if you have a love for shoes, it will show, and someone equally as fanatic will see and it can bring us all together.

Ruth said “I’ve been at a club and been watching two girls fight, then one turned to me and saw my new boots and said ‘Hey I’ve been looking for shoes like that where did you get them from?’ and we started talking, and it’s like the whole
commotion never happened…it kind of brought us together, gave us a common bond…and I feel like that’s the biggest message really, the most positive one. Shoes may just be shoes to some people, but they can be so powerful as to bond people together.”

We’re Mad About Shoes…& Tights!

March 21, 2013 in News, Uncategorized by Administrator

What better way to highlight the alluring appeal of a well made pair of shoes?

What better way to accentuate the craftsmanship of pumps/sandals located only a few inches away from a slender pair of legs that carries the shoes around? Dress them up in tights!

Spring-summer season is fast approaching, a time to break out the skinny jeans and hot pants, and let’s not forget the added bonus of dressing up in fuss-free tights! We have been drawn to a particular brand in Australia that has been tantalizing and tormenting each and everyone of their followers with jaw dropping creations everyday on Facebook, where we first spotted them. We reached out to them about acquiring some press samples and they were kind enough to send them but little did know how much effect the pieces would have on each and everyone of our editors, turning them into addicts of the brand! We have been collecting their creations for Shoeholics magazine fashion closet ever since, with the hope of using them on our models in an upcoming issue. In the meantime, we thought it would be wise to share with our members one of many ways to look sleek and chic this spring-summer –look no further than Black Milk Clothing from down under.

Heavily Pregnant Amber Rose In Kitten Heels

February 13, 2013 in News, Uncategorized by Administrator

Amber Rose looked street chic while heavily pregnant. Being pregnant doesn’t mean you have to settle for clogs and slippers. We think Amber pulled this off well. The glowing mom-to-be wore dainty red shoes with kitten heels to match her cute red polka dot bag while out and about recently. She looks like she is about to give birth any day now. See other pregnant celebrities who have defied the odds in skyscraper heels, including our article on this very subject in the print edition of Shoeholics magazine in 2012.

Shoe Obsession Madness At The FIT Museum

Shoe Obsession exhibit at the MFIT

Finally! A museum exhibit made just for us! The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT) teamed up with mega department store Saks to present a world class “Shoe Obsession” exhibit highlighting shoe collection from major and independent designers worldwide. The collection includes highly sort after (by die hard collectors) styles by Chanel, Alexander McQueen, Nicholas Kirkwood, Manolo Blahnik, Giuseppe Zanotti et. al. And who knew Nina Ricci did heeless shoes at one point. That took us by surprise.

The exhibit was well timed to coincide with New York Fashion Week, just when most fashionistas, stylist and editors are in the city to take in the runway shows. The collection includes designs that have been worn by Lady Gaga; the iconic Manolo Blahnik blue satin pumps Mr. Bigs used to pop the question to Carrie in the hit show Sex & The City; iconic designs by Alexander McQueen on loan from Daphne Guinness; Marie Antoinette inspired styles by Christian Dior; edgy, futuristic and architectural inspired designs by Masaya Kushino; and skeletal styles by Janina Alleyne; just to name a few.

This is a must-see event by all shoe collectors worth their weight in gold, same goes for aspiring shoe designers looking for ideas and inspirations. The museum invited editors of Shoeholics magazine to the press preview day and had a hard time kicking us out of the room after closing hours. Just about all of the invited press officials couldn’t get enough. One of them literally stuck her tongue out to “taste the rainbow” so to speak when she saw a giant poster of a fetish shoe (see picture below). We were all in our elements, die hard shoe addicts camouflaged as “press” and what have you. We all had one more picture or two to take beyond the cut off time. Overstaying our welcome would be an understatement.

If you are not in town for fashion week, seeing this show is definitely worth jumping on a long flight heading straight to the city, you won’t be sorry. The exhibit is officially open from February 8 until April 13, 2013. There is one good thing about this event. You get to leave your credit cards at home to gawk at some of the most artistically well-crafted shoes on the planet. It is absolutely FREE to get in! For more, visit Fitnyc.edu/museum
